About Raj Bhattacharya — Founder, Bermuda-Attractions.com

Raj BhattacharyaI first set foot on Bermuda in 2005. Within three years I had launched bermuda-attractions.com; within six I had left a senior management role at IBM to write about the island full-time. Today the site is one of the longest-standing independent guides to Bermuda online.

"It's hard to believe this was not done by a Bermudian.
— Carla, Bermuda

How Bermuda happened

That first 2005 visit was meant to be a holiday. Two things turned it into something more.
The first was the island itself — the pink-sand beaches, the turquoise Atlantic, the particular character of Bermudian life. The second was meeting Teddy Tucker, the legendary Bermudian diver and shipwreck historian, and his wife.

Spending time with Teddy — listening to his stories of the wrecks he had recovered, his knowledge of the reefs, his unhurried wisdom about work, family, and the island he had spent a lifetime exploring — left a mark that outlasted the trip.

I returned home, started writing about Bermuda in my spare time, and shared the early pieces with friends. The response was enough to keep going. In 2008 I put the writing on the web as bermuda-attractions.com — a few pages at first, then steadily more as readers wrote in with questions, corrections, and stories of their own trips. By 2010 the site had grown enough that I left IBM to work on it full-time.

    The site today

Bermuda-attractions.com covers the island in depth — every parish, the major attractions and lesser-known ones, beaches, restaurants, hotels, transport, weather, events, and the practical questions visitors actually ask. The site is currently being consolidated and refreshed: older material is being reviewed, updated, or retired so that what remains reflects Bermuda as it is today.

I have also written several eBooks for travellers planning a Bermuda trip — practical guides, and area-specific handbooks. See the eBooks

    From readers

Over the years, thousands of travelers have written in with trip notes, questions, corrections, and thanks. Their messages are the reason this is still a one-person site rather than a corporate operation — and they're the most honest measure of whether the site is doing its job.

"I'm not easily impressed with destination-oriented websites, but I'm totally blown away by yours — just about anything one might wish to know is there.
    — Paul Ferguson, retired owner, Destination Management Company, San Juan, Puerto Rico

"I spent the small amount of cash on the Frommer's guidebook and this website has it beat.
    — Mike
